Don't match, just don't clash

The World has gone mad,
It’s left me quite sad.

I find it most abominable,
more than a little improbable,
that not a long time ago,
I knew what clothes to forgo.
Yesterday I knew what to wear,
But now that question’s up in the air.

The question is a poignant one.
Grueling, not easily done.
In this world of several passions,
how does one fashion his fashions?
I took a small gander,
and saw over yonder,
dear Marc Jacobs in a dress of lace.
I’d copy him but really I lack the grace.
I’d feel a mess, a downright disgrace.
More power to him though, he’s got great taste.

I turned to my Scottish Brother kilted on the hill,
But this too was incapable of fitting the bill.
My legs felt remarkably bare.
My pores stood, constricting my hairs.
The wool was far too scratchy,
It made my nethers itchy.
I scratched until I could feel no more,
My buttocks were red, my scrotum sore.

I turned again to the Arabian knights,
Their garments were quite ill suited for the night.
One night In winter I wore them out for a bite.
But I ended up bitten by the bitter cold.
I hear you ask, why no gloves or thermals?
They made the get up look quite abysmal.

Even though I had failed not once but thrice.
I was quite determined to get it right.
I looked at men in the middle ages
And found them more dapper than the mages.

Clad in a shirt, doublet and hose,
I wandered the streets, quite verbose.
All I got were funny looks and glances.
Some even asked if I was dandy.

I decided then and there most discreetly
No odd items of clothing would ever grace me.
I stuck with the plain Bob and Spencer,
And even shopped at Marks and Spencer.
But this disagreed with my attitude
I lost my muchness, my amplitude.
I thought to myself, “Surely there has to be a way
To be individual without appearing gay.”

An idea struck me like a gong,
I knew that I couldn’t be wrong,
I picked up a blazer of rust,
It made the sales girl sick with lust,
I paired this with a bicycle of yellow,
Aren’t I quite the fashionable fellow?
I pulled on some shorts of pink,
Even brighter than the sink.
To silence the conservatives,
I did something unobtrusive
I slipped on a shirt of white,
I dare say I looked quite bright.
For the shoes, I didn’t think at all,
I bought velvet loafers from the mall.

It turned out that all I needed to know,

About looking like a chap in the know,

Was too ignore all thoughts of matching,

While somehow preventing clashing

I developed a mantra,

to steer me clear of all fashion palavers

Don’t match, just don’t clash.

Happy days,

The Questions at the End (Part 3)

08:41:00
This is the last in the questions at the end series. I'm considering compiling them unto one blog post, but that's a matter best considered later. I find that the more personal things are, the harder it is for me to post them. The time is ripe for this one.

The Questions at the end 1
The Questions at the end 2

When will they be answered?
These questions that spanned three chapters.
We stayed with you from one through three
But were only met with obscurity.

It matters not that we knew nought,
The answers mean just as much.
We feel just as bad as you,
For not knowing what you went through.

I need not tell you,
Look to the ode on Melancholy,
I knew but I didn’t listen,
I looked to the river Lethe,
And counseled with the poisons three.

Our questions have been answered,
These questions that spanned three chapters,
But still we are not free,
Our guilt will linger long after,
For we knew we had forsaken thee.

The truth is I had forsaken me,
Had I not, we never would have come to this,
I can’t forgive your transgressions,
What you thought transgressions were surely imagined.

Your questions have been answered,
The only questions now are about the here after.
I know not what comes next,
But, I’m here to see the rest.

Happy Days,
Afam.

The Questions at the End

23:03:00
The more I write, the more I realize that 1+1 is always 2 and 2+2 is always 4 but 1+1 might just as easily be 3, sometimes 4 and more often than not 5. I wish I could explain the thoughts behind every line but now they're written and I can't do anything about them. This one's about the end of a relationship. I apologize for the heavy metaphors.

The questions have started,
they'll likely remain unanswered,
the questions will remain.

How are you?
How are you really?
You ask me twice but there's no reveal.
If I could tell you, I wouldn't need to.

What happened?
I don't know.
All I know is that all was fine,
Then all too soon the spark was gone.

Explain yourself...
I knew I would have to,
I found that I no longer cared to.
The truth is I had forsaken us.

I can't understand.
I gave you everything.
You lacked nothing.
I know I lacked something.
What it was, you wouldn't guess,
I believed it punishable by death.

The date was set.
There was nothing left,
I would leave this day or next.
Nothing today mattered,
I could see the end.
After all, I would go someday,
That day might as well be today.

As quickly as it began it was over.
I had started the cycle of disrepair.
We would have several conversations after,
But the questions remained unanswered.

Happy Days,

Afam

Treble Clef

04:40:00

Perfect moments, sad in their perfection,
Surround me with bars of eight.
To know that it was as beautiful as it was short would be the ultimate gratification.
There'd be no joy if every note was a crescendo,
Just as music would be dull without some moderato.
The best things are never saccharine sweet.
The so called perfect moments are only perfect in their imperfection.

First Flight

23:01:00
Patters of little feet
Straying away from home
First thoughts of freedom
First steps of unbroken soles
You were never told
You didn’t know what lay in the cold
Pitter Patter of baby feet
Tracks on virgin snow
You didn’t realize how hard it’d be to trudge there
The patters of tiny feet
First inklings of independence
Discovering what it really means to be alone

Happy Days,
Afam
